The Wonderful World of Bees, with Janine McGowan, M.Sc

September 12, 2024 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

Environmental Scientist and Beekeeper Janine McGowan will introduce us to many Bees of the World, plus the Bee biodiversity in Canada and to Honey Bees in particular. During her 6 years working and studying at the “Bee Lab” (U of Guelph’s Honey Bee Research Centre), Janine revived their Apiculture Club, acted as President for 4 years, and she has also participated in many apiculture-related research projects.

For 5 consecutive years Janine served as an interpreter of citizen science for Pollinator Appreciation Week at the Royal Ontario Museum and continues to present and provide workshops on the relationships between honey bees, native pollinators, and cover crops. Janine continues to expand her knowledge of native pollinators, focusing on regenerative agriculture and gardening. Less grass and more habitat, please! Bring on the bee-friendly cover crops!

7pm Thurs. Sept. 12, 2024 at the Bayshore Community Centre and on Zoom – to request a ZOOM LINK please send an email, in advance, to web@osfn.ca with Bees in the subject line

EVERYONE WELCOME! Admission FREE or by DONATION

OSFN Indoor Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Bayshore Community Centre, 1900 3rd Ave E Owen Sound. There are no Indoor Meetings in July and August. Please see the individual event listings below for more details.

We invite speakers with a wide range of expertise from Grey/Bruce and other parts of the province. These evenings are open to the public. The auditorium is open by 6:30. The meeting gets under way at 7:00, and may include brief announcements by other organizations as well as OSFN club activities, club business, social time, nature sightings and reports.

The club also offers a full schedule of outdoor activities during the year. Through these outings, members learn more about the birds, plants, mammals and geology of this part of Ontario. We also keep a protective eye on our precious natural areas.
