Fred Jazvac in recognition of your dedication, valued leadership and teamwork with the Owen Sound Field Naturalists, including 14 years of guiding and teaching with ‘Birding Around the Bay’, indoor presentations and a six-year term on the OSFN Board of Directors, including two years as President; from 1996 to 2023 Fred was the Coordinator of the Bruce Birding Club, bringing together the birding community for bi-weekly outings and weekend trips; many years of volunteering with area Christmas Bird Counts; and since 2007 Fred has been a leader and a committee member with the Huron Fringe Birding Festival!
From the very dawn of the OSFN Dave has been involved. He was on the first Board of Directors. He served as Vice-President, President and Past President from 1993 to1998.
Tuesday Evening Birding at the Fidlers was a highlight of May and June for many years.
Dave led many outings. Eagles at Baie du Dore, Around the Sound and many many more.

This year (2014) the OSFN has chosen Merle Gunby as a recipient of our Honourary Life Membership award. This award is given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to nature, research, education and conservation. Merle and his wife Sheila joined the OSFN in 1995 and since then Merle has spent many hours volunteering on numerous projects for the OSFN.
Bob has worked with the Owen Sound Field Naturalists over many years to publish several books about the natural history of Grey and Bruce Counties.
Bob’s background is in physical geography and biology. Most of his career was spent working locally as a naturalist and ecologist for the Ministry of Natural Resources.
In 1994 the OSFN began discussing the idea of producing a Grey Bruce plant checklist. Building on Bobs work through MNR with Joe Johnson, the ad hoc group published “A Checklist of the Vascular Plants for Grey & Bruce Counties” in 1995. At the Owen Sound Field Naturalist AGM in March 2011, an Honourary Life Membership was bestowed on Lorraine Brown. While in past years, the OSFN has bestowed this honour for outstanding contributions in nature research, education and conservation, Lorraine will be the first member to be recognized for her contribution to the club itself. Lorraine’s life-long love of nature is written into everything she does. A record of the energy and talent that she brings to the table is stamped into the annals of our Club. British-born and with a Masters degree in botany, Joan has taught every level from kindergarten to 4th year university at some time or another.
Joan received her Masters degree from the University of Manitoba, specializing in bryophytes (a division of small, simple plants that comprises the mosses and liverworts). This area of study has given her a working knowledge of geology, too, as bryophytes often grow on rocks. She is a well-founded biologist with a strong bias to ecology. George Peck Since 1966 George, a former veterinarian, has been the coordinator of the Ontario Nest Records Scheme (ONRS) for the Royal Ontario Museum where he is a Research Associate.
