The Geology of the Niagara Escarpment with Beth Gilhespy
Beth is the past CEO of the Bruce Trail Conservancy and a geology enthusiast. She will delight you with a presentation on the geology of the Niagara Escarpment.
Beth Gilhespy is Executive Director of the Toronto Zoo Wildlife Conservancy, an organization dedicated to securing financial resources for Toronto Zoo wildlife conservation programs. Between 2004 and 2018 she was Chief Executive Officer of the Bruce Trail Conservancy, where she supervised a staff of 18 and oversaw the activities of more than 1,500 volunteers in trail management and land preservation. During her time at the BTC more than 6,500 acres of Niagara Escarpment land was acquired by the organization, worth more than $23 million. Prior to her work at the Bruce Trail Conservancy, Ms. Gilhespy worked for 15 years in the field of toxic chemical management. She holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in physical geography and geology from the University of Guelph.
To ensure that we have sufficient time at this meeting, the Hospitality Team will be starting the coffee earlier so that you can get your coffee or tea and goodies well in advance of the meeting. We hope to see you shortly after 6:40 pm so that you can enjoy an earlier social time. If you are on snack, please plan to come earlier.
OSFN Indoor Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Bayshore Community Centre, 1900 3rd Ave E Owen Sound. There are no Indoor Meetings in July and August. Please see the individual event listings below for more details.
We invite speakers with a wide range of expertise from Grey/Bruce and other parts of the province. These evenings are open to the public. The auditorium is open by 6:30. The meeting gets under way at 7:00, and may include brief announcements by other organizations as well as OSFN club activities, club business, social time, nature sightings and reports.
The club also offers a full schedule of outdoor activities during the year. Through these outings, members learn more about the birds, plants, mammals and geology of this part of Ontario. We also keep a protective eye on our precious natural areas.
