Freshwater Mussels Summertime Field Trip with Todd Morris
Tuesday, August 18 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Freshwater Mussels Summertime Field Trip with Todd Morris
Date: Tuesday, August 18
Time: 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Join Research Scientist Todd Morris for a hands-on introduction to the fascinating freshwater mussels of the Saugeen River.
Todd will show participants some of the mussel species living in the river and demonstrate how researchers find, sample and identify them. We will also learn about mussel life cycles, their unique adaptations and the important relationships between mussels and fish. Depending on conditions, the group may also seine for fish and see examples of the specialized lures used by some mussel species.
This program was very popular when it was previously offered in July 2017, and we are excited to bring it back.
Meeting Location:
Saugeen River Canoe Access Point #7
Concession Road 10, west of Elmwood
Coordinates: 44.2269, -81.1655

OSFN Indoor Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Bayshore Community Centre, 1900 3rd Ave E Owen Sound. There are no Indoor Meetings in July and August. Please see the individual event listings below for more details.
We invite speakers with a wide range of expertise from Grey/Bruce and other parts of the province. These evenings are open to the public. The auditorium is open by 6:30. The meeting gets under way at 7:00, and may include brief announcements by other organizations as well as OSFN club activities, club business, social time, nature sightings and reports.
The club also offers a full schedule of outdoor activities during the year. Through these outings, members learn more about the birds, plants, mammals and geology of this part of Ontario. We also keep a protective eye on our precious natural areas.
