Grey Roots Spring Lecture Series – Orchid Quest w/ Audrey Armstrong & Willy Waterton
March 19, 2024 @ 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
DETAILS and UPDATE: Due to popular demand, Grey Roots have added a second lecture time of 2:30 pm. You can choose which time you prefer – 1:00 or 2:30 pm. It will be the same presentation at both times.
Join us on Tuesday March 19 at 1:00 PM or 2:30 PM for Orchid Quest: with Audrey Armstrong & Willy Waterton, Searching for Bruce & Grey’s 49 orchid species.
Did you know that Orchids of Bruce & Grey is a Canadian bestseller? When the Owen Sound Field Naturalists (OSFN) planned to revise the out of print guide, Willy Waterton and Audrey Armstrong volunteered to update the original analogue photos of the orchids with digital imagery. The new, fully illustrated 5th edition has two pages for each of the 49 species of orchids from Bruce and Grey counties. Join Audrey and Willy for an engaging recounting of their two-year orchid quest adventure and enjoy a fascinating overview of the many orchid species found throughout Ontario! Copies of the revised Orchids Bruce & Grey will be available for sale, with all proceeds going to OSFN.
This presentation is part of the 2024 Spring Lecture Series taking place in the Grey Roots Theatre on Tuesdays March 19, 26, and April 2 (series starts the Tuesday after March Break). Talks begin at 1:00 PM. A second talk has been added at 2:30 PM.
Complimentary refreshments following. Lectures are free with regular admission. Members free as always. Check out the advantages of Grey Roots Membership.
This presentation is supported by the Owen Sound Field Naturalists.
John Dickson was able to re-establish OSFN Programming partnering with Grey Roots. It had been interrupted by COVID.
Our main involvement in this venture has been to demonstrate our support of programmes at Grey Roots which have a Nature theme. Two events in their Spring Lecture series fit that very well. March 19 and March 26 with Robert Burcher.
In addition, OSFN members who are not already members at Grey Roots, (many of us are members of both) may attend these popular events for free. Ideally they should wear their OSFN name tags while at Grey Roots, to avoid any confusion.
We hope this especially benefits OSFN members who were unable to attend these presentations when we had them in our own event series a few years ago, or who would like to see them again, and visit Grey Roots too.
OSFN Indoor Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Bayshore Community Centre, 1900 3rd Ave E Owen Sound. There are no Indoor Meetings in July and August. Please see the individual event listings below for more details.
We invite speakers with a wide range of expertise from Grey/Bruce and other parts of the province. These evenings are open to the public. The auditorium is open by 6:30. The meeting gets under way at 7:00, and may include brief announcements by other organizations as well as OSFN club activities, club business, social time, nature sightings and reports.
The club also offers a full schedule of outdoor activities during the year. Through these outings, members learn more about the birds, plants, mammals and geology of this part of Ontario. We also keep a protective eye on our precious natural areas.
